A Condo or a House
|
Procuring a home is one of the massive and most significant judgments one will ever
make. Whether you are a first-time consumer, or a veteran homeowner looking to trade
up or make a new start, you will inevitably be faced with a number of questions.
One of the most fundamental questions is whether to buy a condo or single family
house. Living in the heart of the city comes with tradeoffs. For the price of two-bedroom/two-bath
condo, one could easily buy a home three times the size.
Condominiums are just airspace within the unit surfaces. The associated owners own
just the expensive airspace between their floor, ceiling and walls to the inner
surfaces. The building structure is reserved by the HOA (Home Owner Association),
including the plumbing and wiring constitutes the common areas, such as hallways,
elevators, land and parking areas.
The primary benefits of buying a condominium include: (a) condos are usually less
expensive than equivalent-size houses; (b) lack of exterior maintenance responsibility
and worry; (c) the security of just turning the key in the door while being gone
for an extended time period without worry; (d) virtually the same homeowner tax
deduction benefits as for houses; (e) pride of ownership and (f) resale profit potential
as a long-term investment. To make a correct decision regarding whether to go for
an apartment or a condo, will depend on several factors which are as follows:
|
(a) Location : Are there options for both condos and single-family
houses in this area?
(b) Privacy :Is it important to you to have complete privacy or
do you find close neighbors to be a comfort?
(c) Responsibility : Do you need total control over decisions affecting
your home or are you attracted to the idea of sharing decision-making with your
neighbors?
(d) Maintenance :Are you a homebody who enjoys getting dirty in
the yard or are you delighted with the idea of never having to cut a blade of grass
again?
(e) Budget :How much do you have to spend? Depending on where you
want to live, a condo may be the only option that meets your budget.
By keeping the above mentioned points in mind, you can make a genuine choice between
the two. Also in future if your interests and priorities varied in the years ahead,
you can always sell one's home and make a move, this time with experience as your
guide.
